Dogs and cats are mammals, and from my understanding of physiology, in order for the body to stay well it requires vital nutrients, such as enzymes. Enzymes come from whole foods, especially living foods, such as lightly cooked meats, raw vegetables, sprouted legumes, seeds, fermented and cultured foods as well as fruits and berries. Human beings eat mostly whole foods that are rich in all kinds of nutrients, providing the body with life, vitality and nourishment. Dogs and cats are primarily fed bagged dry food or wet can food. How can eating the equivalent of, bagged chips, canned soups, canned vegetables and canned fruit your entire life be healthy? Most of us would begin to feel tired, irritable, sluggish, anxious and nervous. Minerals and trace minerals would become depleted. This would affect our vitamin and enzyme activity as well as our absorption and utilization. Therefore afflicting our physiology with ailments such as arthritis, osteoporosis, digestive disturbances, skin conditions, parasites and fleas. As you can see when nutrients become depleted, the body begins its descent into illness. When we eat, and fed our animal friends living foods, we are nourishing the body, mind and soul. Feeding our dogs, Quinoa and Niles and our cats, Kimba and Alvin living foods and herbs has been an amazing journey. |

Enzymes are required for every function, especially digestion and a healthy immune system. Enzymes are divided into two groups: digestive and metobolic. Digestive enzymes help our body break down our food. Metabolic enzymes use the converted foods enzymes to help promote healthy cells and strong immunity. Enzymatic functions keep the liver, lungs, colon etc. detoxified and the blood clean. The liver alone has over 700 enzymatic functions. Enzymes are what keep our cells healthy and renewed. Vital nutrients such as minerals, vitamins and amino acids cannot function properly without healthy active enzymes. |

The pet food industry has not been around very long, only since the 1950’s. When I began my research on commercial pet foods, I was shocked and appalled at what they consider food. For example, animal by-products are usually diseased, and or tumored animals. What I found most astonishing is that they will put almost anything into a vat, extrude it at extremely high temperatures until it is all turned into one unrecognizable substance. This is what they call food. They should eat it! There are plenty of pet food companies out there who do not use animal by-products but meat from healthy animals, grains, vegetables and supplements. Unfortunately the food is still dried or over cooked making digestion difficult and creating stress on the liver and kidneys. |

Since the introduction of dried and canned pet foods, we have seen many ailments and illness. For the past 56 years, we have been convinced that feeding our dogs and cats dried and canned pet foods is what they need. I have done lots of research, and can’t quite understand how the commercial pet food industry has come to the conclusion that eating out of a bag or a can is healthier than eating real meat, organ meat, bones, grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruit. The beauty of living foods is it has worked for perfectly for 500 million years. Feeding whole foods to our dogs and cats is really easy. Before the pet food industry humans fed their dogs and cats what they ate. Meat, grains, vegetables and fruit. Dogs and cats also graze if they are allowed to be outside. My husband and I met this man with three large, happy vivacious older dogs on our walk, we stopped the man and had to ask how old his dogs were. He said 15, 16 and 18. Eighteen! I asked what do you feed them? He said what we feed ourselves lamb, fish, grains, vegetables and a horse mix made up of alfalfa, comfrey and dandelion. Amazing. |
